Our story

At Upcycles, every bicycle has a story worth telling. From the sleek lines of a 1960s road bike to the rugged charm of a classic mountain bike, these two-wheeled wonders aren’t just modes of transport—they’re pieces of history. Our passion for cycling, craftsmanship, and design led us to create Upcycles, a company that restores and reimagines vintage bicycles for the modern rider.

How it all began

After spending 15 years as a manufacturing engineer, our founder, Chris, decided to leave the corporate world and pursue his lifelong passion for bicycles. With a deep understanding of engineering and craftsmanship and formal training from the United Bicycle Institute, Chris became a Certified Bicycle Technician and founded Upcycles to blend technical expertise with a love for vintage bike restoration.

The idea for Upcycles began during a weekend ride in DC when Chris discovered an old, forgotten French bicycle. Rusted and worn but brimming with character, that bike sparked a fascination with the forgotten gems of the cycling world. What started as a hobby—painstakingly restoring old bicycles—quickly became a full-time mission to give these beautiful machines a second life.

A love for vintage design

We don’t just restore bicycles; we honor the timeless designs that have shaped cycling culture over the decades. Whether it’s sourcing rare components, refurbishing original frames, or developing our brand with a nod to the past, we pay tribute to the craftsmanship and ingenuity that defined every era of cycling.

From passion to purpose

Upcycles grew from a love of vintage bikes into a business built on sustainability and quality. Every bike and component we restore helps reduce waste, prolonging the lifespan of these machines and giving them a second chance. Our mission is to bring back the past and blend it with the future, creating timeless bikes and riding like new.

The journey continues

As we continue to grow, so does our commitment to preserving cycling history. Upcycles plans to expand its offerings to include custom-made parts and accessories that keep the spirit of vintage design alive. Whether you’re looking to restore a beloved old bike or want something with classic appeal and modern reliability, we’re here to help make your ride reflect your story.
